Why are so many promising applications yet to be integrated into the clinical workflow?

By J.H.F. Oosterhoff

Jacobien Oosterhoff is an Assistant Professor in Artificial Intelligence for Healthcare Systems at Delft University of Technology. She completed medical school at the University of Amsterdam, and subsequently conducted PhD research where she was introduced to the world of AI at Harvard Medical School. Her PhD is titled: 'Artificial Intelligence in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery: the Hype and the Hips'. Back in the Netherlands, she expanded her horizon beyond the walls of a hospital building because “for the future of AI in healthcare, we need more knowledge cross-pollination”. She will take you along the central question, “Why are so many promising applications yet to be integrated into the clinical workflow?”. To do so, she provides clinical examples, highlighting the synergies between healthcare providers, patients, and programmers. She invites you to share your ideas and explore the next steps for AI in healthcare together. Because, more AI in healthcare, can actually mean more human attention in healthcare.
